No-Vig Fair Odds Explained – Remove the Bookmaker's Margin | BookieBrawler
No-vig fair odds are, how to calculate them, and why removing the vig is essential for finding +EV bets.
What Is the Vig?
The vig (vigorish), also called juice , is the commission sportsbooks charge. It's baked into the odds. A standard -110/-110 line has about 4.5% juice - meaning the combined implied probability adds up to ~104.5% instead of 100%.
How to Calculate No-Vig Odds
To remove the vig, you calculate each side's implied probability, then divide by the total to normalize to 100%.
Example: Team A is -150, Team B is +130.
- Team A implied: 150/250 = 60%
- Team B implied: 100/230 = 43.5%
- Total: 103.5% (the extra 3.5% is the vig)
- Team A no-vig: 60/103.5 = 58.0%
- Team B no-vig: 43.5/103.5 = 42.0%
Why No-Vig Odds Matter
- True probability: No-vig odds tell you what the market actually thinks the probability is
- Finding +EV bets: Compare no-vig odds to other sportsbook offerings - if a book is offering better odds than fair value, it's +EV
- Measuring juice: Helps you identify which books have the lowest vig (cheapest to bet at)
