What is a Pleaser Bet? Pleaser Betting Explained | BookieBrawler
A pleaser bet is, how it differs from a teaser, the payout structure, and when pleaser bets can be +EV.
Pleaser vs. Teaser
- Teaser: Move the spread 6-7 points IN YOUR FAVOR. Lower payout (typically -110 to +100)
- Pleaser: Move the spread 6-7 points AGAINST YOU. Higher payout (typically +600 to +1500)
How Pleasers Work
In a 6-point pleaser, if the line is Chiefs -3, you'd take the Chiefs at -9 (adding 6 points against you). If the line is Bengals +7, you'd take the Bengals at +1. Both legs must cover for the pleaser to pay out. A 2-team, 6-point pleaser typically pays around +600 to +700.
When Pleasers Have Value
Most pleasers are -EV (negative expected value), but certain spots can offer value:
- NFL Blowout Setups: Games where you expect a dominant team to win by 10+ points anyway
- Crossing Through Key Numbers (Backwards): Moving a dog from +7 to +1 when you believe they'll win outright anyway
- Correlated Pleasers: Combining two games where you expect lopsided outcomes
Should You Bet Pleasers?
Pleasers are fun as occasional plays but are generally -EV for the bettor. The payouts look attractive, but the hit rate is low. If you're going to bet pleasers, treat them like parlays - small stakes with the understanding that most will lose. For most bettors, teasers offer a better risk-reward profile.
